Twelve thousand miles of pristine rivers traverse the state of Alaska. Beneath their rippled surface, nutrient rich waters support the largest salmon runs in America, as well as robust populations of Arctic Char and Grayling, Coastal Cutthroat and Rainbow trout, Dolly Varden and Steelhead. Many species depend on these waters for survival and sport. This film follows a diverse group of women being introduced to the sport of flyfishing as they learn how to cast, catch, release and conserve this renewable resource for the generations that follow.
Co-producers Pudge Kleinkauf and Deborah Schildt collaborated to bring this project to life. Pudge has over thirty years of experience introducing women to flyfishing through her business, Women's Flyfishing. Deborah brought her passion as a filmmaker for working in the rugged and extreme environments that Alaska is famous for. Together they map the journey of a group of beginning flyfishers as they learn about the sport, get to know one another and become champions for the rich waters they fish.
Just like our namesake, Rosie the Riveter, we're a can do team ready to make a splash with the latest trailer for our film, Rosie's River Girls.. We'll be screening it on March 16th alongside an evening of womens fly fishing films at the REEL SPRING FEVER film festival. The festival starts at 6pm at the Lakefront Hotel in Anchorage, Alaska. The event is hosted by FisheWear and Trout Unltd. of Alaska. Tickets available online and at the door.
Rosie the Riveter has long been a symbol for independent, strong willed women ready to take on any challenge. Why not the long male dominated world of flyfishing?
